Manchester International Festival / Massive Attack vs. Adam Curtis
Continuing their collaboration with Massive Attack, the studio worked with UVA to design and deliver the installation environment for a specially curated Adam Curtis film with live sountrack by Massive Attack, by the Manchester International Festival in 2013. The work then was re-shown in Germany and the US.
Curtis’ film drew together threads connecting Russian punk, Jane Fonda in full aerobic flight and the legacy of pop art to illuminate the rise of the managed state; Massive Attack’s live performance provided the emotional weight. Surrounded by screens, audiences of 2000 a night discovered that buried optimism plus bone-shaking bass makes for an awesome intellectual and visceral experience.
‘The marriage of the two… is inspired… It’s a Requiem Mass of sorts. This is a truly pan-sensory and exhausting experience.’ THE FINANCIAL TIMES.
